PaintQP Painting Quality Process
For coating jobs, Comel has a new and revolutionary in-house powder coating system with a pre-treatment tunnel, drying and curing oven, and spray booths, featuring – since 2019 – two automatic painting robots.

Corrosion wreaks havoc on metalwork across the globe, but not in the same way in every location.
Hence five corrosivity categories have been established: from C1 for the interior of heated buildings with clean atmospheres; to C5 for industrial areas with high humidity and aggressive atmospheres, and coastal areas with high salinity.
C1
NOT intended for exterior use, only for indoors (heated buildings with clean atmospheres: offices, schools, shops, hotels).
C2
Atmospheres with low levels of pollution: mostly rural areas.
C3
Urban and industrial atmospheres, moderate pollution; coastal areas with low salinity.
C4
Industrial areas and coastal areas with moderate salinity.
C5
Industrial areas with high humidity and aggressive atmospheres; coastal areas with high salinity; airports, highly corrosive interiors (swimming pools, chemical plants, food processing plants, etc…).
At the end of the process, a special instrument, the Pinhole Detector,
is used to double-check that cut edges and corners
have been coated thoroughly.
With the Comel coating process, which is ISO 12944 compliant, progressively more resistant systems ensure products destined for areas falling into the three highest categories – from C3 to C5 – deliver in terms of both high quality and durability.

What is the root of Comel quality? To start with, the raw materials: premium-grade galvanized sheet steel and iron. Then there is our laser cutting – performed in an environment shielded with pure nitrogen – the accuracy of the machining, and painstaking care taken in preparing metalwork prior to coating.
The operation performed using our innovative Comel technology plays a crucial role in this regard, avoiding corrosion trigger points.

Corrosion doesn’t just affect metalwork outdoors: anywhere moisture and oxygen are present, materials are susceptible to rust, and that includes indoors.
To give metalwork a high level of protection against corrosion, we effectively create a barrier effect, a shield that stands in the way of corrosion trigger points, sitting between the oxidizing agents on the outside (air, moisture, chemicals, etc.) and the metal the product is made from.

We are currently the only company in Italy to have a one-stop system – from processing the blank to the coated finished product – and to have been awarded Qualisteelcoat certification, ensuring we deliver the best corrosion protection qualities possible.
The compliance demanded by the Technical Standards entails meeting all key performance indicators for both receiving inspection and finished product quality control.
The international QualiSteelCoat quality label – established to ensure corrosion protection coating systems meet quality standards – refers to the environmental corrosivity categories defined in standard ISO 12944-2, for interior or exterior use, and for a durability greater than 15 years. The classification of QualiSteelCoat-approved coating systems refers to 5 atmospheric corrosivity categories: from C1 to C5.
